Thermal barriers are defined in building code as 1/2-inch gypsum wallboard or any material that is as equally fire resistant as 1/2-inch gypsum wallboard. The gypsum wallboard is known as a prescriptive thermal barrier. Materials are tested in a 15-minute fire test in order to determine whether or not they are equal in fire resistance to the 1/2-inch gypsum wallboard. If they are, then they can be used and counted as the equivalent of gypsum wallboard.
I applied CMX on my wife's car and my car and had odd results. See pic. I ended up with little white beads that formed when I sprayed CMX on car, wiped it to a haze, but not completely off. After about 2 minutes I then began to wipe CMX until the haze was gone. However, oddly, after letting the product dry (but not yet wiping completely off) it began to form white little beads (possibly residual). What a pain as these beads landed in all the window crevices, etc. It's like when you have a bad wax that leaves dust. I had to use a can of compressed air to wipe the bead out of the crevices. I was thinking that allowing it to haze would allow CMX to bond to the paint better. After getting the beads cleaned up I tested again and spray CMX on, then wiped completely dry. No beads. Allison--would be very interested in your take on the GHG issues of foams, which have received lots of smart commentary recently. To highlight a few: architect Jesse Thompson's comments on Tom's Good vs Bad post on Energy Circle, the very thorough piece by Alex Wilson on Green Building Advisor and Michael Anschel's cautionary diatribe on Remodeling.
Most spray paint is classified by how it’s used, but almost all formulations feature an array of vibrant colors and fitting finishes to give your project the best finishing touch. General purpose spray paint and decorative spray paint can be used on a wide array of materials (both indoors and out), features unique textures and finishes like metallic, high gloss, crackle and stone. Rust-preventative spray paints, like Rust-oleum, are generally used on outdoor items to help prevent fading, cracking, corrosion and rust accumulation. Professional spray paints are designed for industrial use, provide continuous rust and corrosion protections and tend to dry to the touch in 15 minutes or less. Other industrial spray paints include striping spray paints used on blacktop for roads, grass for lining sports fields and other surfaces like concrete and soil to indicate utility lines. Other special use paints include automotive spray paint, high heat spray paint and special effects like frosted spray paint and glow-in-the-dark spray paint. Most formulations include a primer, but several brands also offer standalone spray primer.
When intumescent coatings are used with spray foaminsulation, they are specific to each insulation brand. You cannot use one intumescent coating with a brand that it was not intended for. If you do not use the properspray foaminsulation brand and intumescent coating combination, then your work will not technically be up to code. Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that intumescent coating can only be used as an ignition barrier alternative if it is being used in an attic or crawl space. And, even then, it can only be used if space is not used for storage and is accessible through a small hatch or door. Spray Coating

Proper recordkeeping: One of the basic tenets of risk control is maintenance of updated health records of personnel handling spray paint products. Confidential data on biological monitoring results must be appropriately kept. Records of the schedule and result of testing procedures should also be kept. Some of the most important tests to be conducted on a regular basis are air quality testing, testing of pressure systems and electrical systems, and testing of compressor reservoir air filters.
Hydraulic and air-powered airless pumps have linear motors that require a hydraulic pump or an air compressor, which can be electric or gasoline powered, although an air compressor is usually diesel powered for mobile use or electric for fixed installations. Some airless units have the hydraulic pump and its motor, built onto the same chassis as the paint pump.
What do you mean by "our AC units require fresh air ventilation"? Fresh air doesn't come from the attic. If there's an atmospheric combustion appliance in the attic, such as an 80 AFUE furnace, then you shouldn't be encapsulating the attic anyway. If that's the case, you don't want spray foam on the roofline at all. You can either change out the furnace to a sealed combustion unit or do your insulating and air-sealing at the flat-ceiling level. Insulation Spray Coating
Like HVLP, low volume low pressure (LVLP) spray guns also operate at a lower pressure (LP), but they use a low volume (LV) of air when compared to conventional and HVLP equipment. This is a further effort at increasing the transfer efficiency (amount of coating that ends up on the target surface) of spray guns, while decreasing the amount of compressed air consumption. Spraying paint with compressed air can be traced back to its use on the Southern Pacific Railway in the early 1880s In 1887 Joseph Binks, the maintenance supervisor at Chicago's Marshall Field's Wholesale Store developed a hand pumped cold-water paint spraying machine to apply whitewash to the subbasement walls of the store. Francis Davis Millet, the decorations director for the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, used Binks and his spray painting system to apply whitewash consisting of a mix of oil and white lead to the buildings at the Exposition, taking considerably less time than traditional brush painting and tuning it into what has been called the White City. In 1949, Edward Seymour developed a type of spray painting, aerosol paint, that could be delivered via a compressed aerosol in a can.
A spray booth is a pressure-controlled closed environment, originally used to paint vehicles in a body shop. To ensure the ideal working conditions (temperature, air flow, and humidity), these environments are equipped with ventilation, consisting of mechanical fans driven by electric motors, and optionally burners to heat the air to speed paint drying. Toxic solvents and paint particles are exhausted outside, possibly after filtering and treatment to reduce air pollution. Prevention of fires and dust explosions is also a high priority. In order to assist in the removal of the over sprayed paint from the air and to provide efficient operation of the down-draft, water-washed paint spray booths utilize paint detackifying chemical agents.
During the 1980s, a class of thermal spray processes called high velocity oxy-fuel spraying was developed. A mixture of gaseous or liquid fuel and oxygen is fed into a combustion chamber, where they are ignited and combusted continuously. The resultant hot gas at a pressure close to 1 MPa emanates through a converging–diverging nozzle and travels through a straight section. The fuels can be gases (hydrogen, methane, propane, propylene, acetylene, natural gas, etc.) or liquids (kerosene, etc.). The jet velocity at the exit of the barrel (>1000 m/s) exceeds the speed of sound. A powder feed stock is injected into the gas stream, which accelerates the powder up to 800 m/s. The stream of hot gas and powder is directed towards the surface to be coated. The powder partially melts in the stream, and deposits upon the substrate. The resulting coating has low porosity and high bond strength. Insulation Spray Coating

I've had concerns with foam in walls with only 2-3" and the resulting air space & convective currents. spray foam for walls is not one of my recommendations to my clients. instead foam sheathing to exterior of walls caulked, taped & sealed. conventional insulation & air tight drywall approach. a better and affordable wall with no extremely long payback like spray foam in walls.
I've used P&S BeadMaker, Meguiars Express Wax, Carnuba Wax, CMX and most recently Meguiars Hybrid Wax. To tell you the truth, if you're a gloss and slick addict, it really boils down to how well you prep your car. Wash, clay bar, compund, and polish. IPA wipe down. Anything else you put on after will highlight the shine you prepped with all the pre-work. Spray Coating
Consumers should be careful to distinguish between purely reflective coatings and true insulating coatings. Reflective coatings only perform when clean and will not block all forms of heat, but a coating with insulative and reflective qualities will block more than one form of heat. “SuperTherm uses four ceramic compounds to block short-wave radiation, IR, and to block the conductivity of heat through the surface,” claims Pritchett. “It’s not just a reflective coating.”
