One of the high-tech insulation products being utilized these days is a foam-spray product called "Icynene," which is a foam that starts as two liquid components (a and b, if you will) that are heated up and sent through two hoses and meet at a tip of a gun where the magic begins. This is a thin film that expands to 100 times its volume in eight seconds, when it's permanently set up. Spray Coating Services
That’s $58.3 Billion dollars. That’s roughly how much money we wasted in 2010 in the US according to the Department of Energy because of air leaking out of our building envelopes. If your building leaks energy, you’re paying more for energy than you need to. Clearly you’re not alone. If you’re ready to claim your share of the savings, it’s quicker and easier than you think. The problem was that the installer was doing his first spray foam job ever, and the thickness of the insulation varied from zero (visible roof deck) to about 9". Unfortunately, good average thickness doesn't cut it. The coverage needs to be uniform because a lot of heat will go through the under-insulated areas. (See my article on flat or lumpy insulation performance.) Spray Coating
E/M Coating Services has over 40 years of experience in applying critical tolerance coatings, and is a pioneer in the development and application of solid film lubricant (SFL) coatings. With its network of five U.S. facilities, E/M Coating Services is the largest applicator of solid film lubricant coatings in North America. Additional facilities in Evesham, U.K.; Unna, Germany and Tianjin & Suzhou, China apply a broad range of SFL and other coatings to steel, titanium and aluminum substrates.
Mascoat is a great alternative to conventional insulation materials, including cellular glass, perlite, mineral wool, fiberglass, urethane & closed cell foam and calcium silicate. Mascoat coatings are lighter than traditional insulation, reducing bulk in your structure. Mascoat also requires much less maintenance than conventional insulation, which can ultimately save you time and money. Want to get started with Mascoat? Request more information today. During the 1980s, a class of thermal spray processes called high velocity oxy-fuel spraying was developed. A mixture of gaseous or liquid fuel and oxygen is fed into a combustion chamber, where they are ignited and combusted continuously. The resultant hot gas at a pressure close to 1 MPa emanates through a converging–diverging nozzle and travels through a straight section. The fuels can be gases (hydrogen, methane, propane, propylene, acetylene, natural gas, etc.) or liquids (kerosene, etc.). The jet velocity at the exit of the barrel (>1000 m/s) exceeds the speed of sound. A powder feed stock is injected into the gas stream, which accelerates the powder up to 800 m/s. The stream of hot gas and powder is directed towards the surface to be coated. The powder partially melts in the stream, and deposits upon the substrate. The resulting coating has low porosity and high bond strength. Insulation Spray Coating

Open-cell is also known as half-pound foam. It has an R-Value of 3.5-3.6 per inch, and its density is bout 0.5 pounds per cubic food. Low-density foams like these are made partially from raw biological materials Carbon dioxide or water is also used in the makeup. Open-cell uses far less material than closed-cell, but its R-Value is lower. Also, open cell requires a vapor retarder (like gypsum wallboard) and is riskier when used for roof sheathing. It's not highly recommended that you use open-cell insulation if you live in a cold climate unless you have that extra barrier. You should also compare how much money you spend versus how effective the open-cell insulation is wherever it's installed.
There is a significant price difference when it comes to using foam insulation to insulate a new versus older home. Spraying insulation inside a newly constructed home is easier because the installation company can ensure the insulation will work effectively and design it for optimum defense against sound, heat transfer and utility costs. Installing spray foam in older homes that contain existing insulation can cost additional time and money -- it is not usually recommended as compared to weatherization or an energy aduit.
The drawback to spray foam insulation is it's been known to cause certain health issues such irritation of the eye and the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Direct contact can cause inflammation to the skin, and some individuals have been known to break out in a rash on the arms, chest and neck area. Spray foam insulation has also been linked to a few cases of hypersensitivity pneumonitis. This condition can cause:
I've seen this only once, and it was with closed cell foam, but I've heard of it happening with open cell foam, too. I don't know the details, but I've heard it could result from a bad batch of chemicals, improper mixing, or too high a temperature. Whatever the cause, it's not a good thing. The photo below shows how the spray foam pulled away from the studs. A little bit of uninsulated area like that adds up to a lot of heat loss/gain when the whole house has that problem, as it did here.
One of the most common applications we handle is the production of custom pressure sensitive adhesive tapes. We also process specialty coatings with job-specific characteristics, such as anti-fog coatings, laminating tapes, fabric appliques, and more. Custom coating formulations are also available to meet the unique requirements of virtually any application. Insulation Spray Coating
I ordered a 5 gallon pail of WHITE silicone roofing to use on my 3 season porch roof. I pressure washed and scrubbed the existing roof clean. When the product came it was not white as shown on the invoice, it was tan. After all of the time I spent cleaning and being that i travel for work, i did not have time to send it back and get the WHITE I had ordered. I applied two full coats of the tan and it went on well and looks good. Other that the color I am satisfied so far. I will likely not purchase from Roof Coating Supply company again as they did not even respond to my complaint about the color. Spray Coating
“Since most of mechanical heat is IR heat, ceramic coatings can be used to prevent heat loss from inside a building,” Pritchett says. A home interior coated in ceramic paint can therefore reduce energy costs due to heat loss in the colder months. “We estimate that a home can save up to 40 to 50 percent in energy costs using our product,” Pritchett says. Payback on a product like SuperTherm, which retails for about $100 per gallon, can come in as little as two years.
Surface Preparation (Residential & Commercial): Pressure wash when possible using pure water. Be sure the surface is clean and completely dry before the application of the coating. Read all label instructions before beginning. Surface must be in savable condition, clean and dry, and should have proper drainage. Always run a test patch first in an inconspicuous area, to ensure that proper adhesion and drying occurs and the product works to your satisfaction. Apply Ames® Peel & Stick™ adhesive seam tape and tape on all badly deteriorated fasteners, rubber washers, joints, seams and around vents. Do not use any soaps or detergents to clean the surface. I applied this product on a rolled asphalt flat patio roof. It was over 90 degrees and I could not touch the roofing at all on the first coat. I was laying on layers of cardboard to apply the silicone under the gutters and then rolled the first coat. The next day I brought all the cardboard to apply the coating under the gutters. I accidentally touched the roof and it was coolâ€¼ï¸ I threw the cardboard off the roof, laid down to do the gutters and roll the second coat. I was amazed how well this sealed and cooled the patio. I am going to apply this to my other patio and covered parking which are metal. I can’t wait to apply for sealing and adding cooling to these areas. Roof Coating Supply answered all my question and they ship promptly - I had my order in 3 days. Thank you. Spray Coating
